Logo Development

Once I had decided on the logo design that I preferred, I began to experiment with different sizes and see what looked best.

I decided to pair the application logo with the text ‘Assist Me’ too as this would be suitable for marketing material whereas the symbol only version would be the app icon on your phone/tablet screen.  I used a few different layout combinations and also combined the four colour choices together to use as the home screen logo.

Initial Logo Ideas

For my initial idea I knew that I wanted to use a key symbol that would become recognisable and distinguish the app from others. I wanted to keep in with the name of the application ‘Assist Me’ and use something that represented helping someone out or offering a helping hand. I drafted up some initial ideas using Adobe Illustrator so that I could see them before choosing a few to develop further.

I picked out my preferred four logos, with some help from my peers, and I duplicated them using my chosen colour theme so that I could see how they would be represented across different platforms.

After a discussion with my tutors and peers, I decided that the second logo was my preferred one because it has two hands and forms the shape of a heart. I think this represents the app ‘Assist Me’ well and it isn’t to complex so can be easily viewed across different mediums.

Logo Research

Before beginning to design my own logo, I wanted to first take a look at existing logs for similar support and healthcare applications. I wanted something that would imply ‘lending a helping hand’ through the logo in a simple and very recognisable way. As I want to ensure that the users of the app are able to recognise and access it easily amongst other applications that they may have.

Usability Research

In order to develop a better understanding of what a project like this could do for its users. I wanted to interview some people who have experience with caring for individuals who have memory loss or learning difficulties.

Assist Me – Concept Interview

Assist Me is a concept for an application that can be used on any smartphone and tablet which aims to aid people with memory loss or who struggle with daily activities. Assist Me will use your smartphones camera to scan everyday items and the play a short instructional animation on how to complete tasks.

This concept will hopefully allow people with difficulties doing everyday tasks to maintain their independence and allow them to take control in their own lives. Family members can also benefit by knowing that they have a guide on how to do tasks and they could also add the option of monitoring individuals to see progress.

What involvement do you have with people that have learning difficulties?

What everyday tasks do you find that individuals often struggle with?

Do you believe that the introduction of technology could help aid individuals that struggle with everyday activities? And how?

Do you think that a rewards system would be helpful to encourage individuals to progress with daily activities?

Should a reminder option be available for tasks that need completing at certain times of the day? (i.e. brushing teeth every morning and night)

Do you think that it is important for a parent / teacher / guardian to be able to monitor progress and set tasks?

How do you think this concept could improve an individual’s quality of life?

Are there any other things that you would like to see included in this concept?

Please add any other comments.
